AVAXCoins are a certifiable OG Avalanche NFT project, starting from humble beginnings on the Avalanche X-chain last year. AVAXCoins were originally created by the artist Coinbro and found their initial adopters in the infamous 4chan /biz forum.
The Avalanche Blockchain was chosen over the Ethereum network due to the gas fees at the time (around $15-$20 per transaction, currently so much more!). It was a complicated minting process as the X-chain did not support trustless distribution through smart contract integration.
Interestingly, AVAXCoins were initially distributed on the X-chain through a rudimentary lottery system to prove the “trust” element necessary to ensure fairness, before moving on to become the C-Chain project that we know of now.

Although X-chain has its limitations, it is a pretty straightforward way to mint NFTs and Avalanche has a very helpful doc on how to do this within their NFT studio here. C-chain NFTs open up a lot more options to users generally and we would advise that new projects go to the C-chain, and that is what AVAXCoins currently utilize.
Prior to AVAXCoins triumphant release on the C-Chain, Coinbro joined forces with Avaware’s founder Meta and together they remade and reimagined the original collection, focusing on updating the original concept with improved resolution and a greatly expanded variety of coin designs in small limited run batches. The 2021 collection includes such rarities as Hieroglyphic, Porcelain and our personal favourite, Jubilee.
The project has certainly achieved some impressive figures since it landed on the C-chain, currently boasting a total sales volume of over 6600 AVAX and a daily sales volume between 5 – 10 AVAX. Respect.
From what we can see the team is not slowing down at all, with a multitude of Limited Edition drops available on the website and more planned in the future. We managed to get our hands on a Tier 5 Volution and have set our sights on a Tier 7 Ruby next.
With a total of 2800 coins available at the price of 2 AVAX, we think these are a great hold, and as the first coin project on Avalanche – it would be wise to toss a coin to them for one in return.
