Discord servers and the strong communities that form within are undoubtedly a core part of any NFT project. Establishing a hub where people can come together to share memorable experiences and fostering a community of people with similar interests will always be a rewarding experience. With the right people in place, community support for an NFT project can really thrive.

Discord was founded in 2015 and was originally intended for the Gaming community, it soon became the place for building and engaging with divergent communities from around the world. The Crypto community found a new home on Discord when projects started to establish communities outside of Twitter, Reddit and online forums.

By introducing features such as categories, channels and roles you can create infrastructure within your server, while categories divide specific subjects within a server, they also serve as a replicable setting for the channels within it.

If you think of categories like floors in a hotel, the channels are the rooms where community members gather. They are used for dedicated functions such as verification, announcements, shill zones or games.
Primary channels are divided into either a voice channel or a text channel as one channel cannot perform both functions at the same time. The setup for the channels can be found in the server settings.  This is where you will find the most vital settings in any discord server, access roles and permission.

Roles are assigned by the administrator of the server and they enable users to perform specific actions including the ability to view channels, modify servers and even manage members. As roles and permissions work together, understanding the importance of granting permissions to certain roles can make or break a community if permissions are abused.

Moderators are an essential connection between developers and community members, they make announcements, push critical updates, welcome new members and ensure that the community is safe for everyone. Great moderators are always available to members for advice and guidance.

For instance, moderators will have a range of permissions that can be used to manage members including timing out, kicking members from the server or even completely banning them from entering. Making sure that you assign Moderator permissions to trusted parties, is important for server management and maintaining relationships within the community.

Discord can be used for a variety of different community-building events, such as live hosted parties, interactive games and the sharing of community created media.

If you want the best experience, your community has to come together and boost the server to Level 3. This will unlock the maximum amount of custom emoji’s and stickers, animated server icons and custom invite backgrounds, the highest audio quality level and a unique vanity invite link for the server. You will need 14 total boosts each month to reach this level with each boost costing $5 per member. Alternatively, you can boost the server independently at a cost of $70 total per month.

Hopefully, this short guide has illustrated the importance of Discord in your community, more information about Discord can be found here
